UCSB integrated photonics startup, Nexus Photonics just closed on its first round of funding! The company was founded in 2018 by a trio of Gauchos: Tin Komljenovic, a former research scientist at UCSB; Chong Zhang, who earned his Ph.D. at UCSB; and hyper-entrepreneurial UCSB professor John Bowers. Nexus has secured its first round of financing with Phoenix Venture PartnersBlueSky Capital, and iGlobe Partners – three seasoned venture capital firms specializing in backing visionary science and semiconductor innovations that are positioned to redefine industries. 

With this new infusion of capital, Nexus will accelerate the deployment of its proprietary integration platform to unlock a broad range of new integrated photonic applications to support growing needs in the fields of AR/VR, quantum, sensing, communications, and RF/5G/6G.
